Monday
January 26: Legs are a bit sore. 20 minutes on the cross trainer. A push/pull/shoulder core based workout and good leg stretching (very tight today).

Tuesday January 27: Tired legs today. I felt like I needed to work hard though and got the 3 miles in. 7.5-8.8mph. Total time: 22:36.

Wednesday January 28: I took today completely off. Very necessary.

Thursday January 29: I didn't feel like I took yesterday off whatsoever. Today was a 4 mile day. At the 2 mile point when I went to increase the speed to 8.0, I mistakenly pressed the stop button. The time showed 15:56. I started as soon as I could, and finished the next 2 miles at 14:35. My math sucks when I'm sleepy. I think that is a combined 30:31.

Friday January 30: 3 Mile day ranging from 7-9mph at the Montclair gym. 22:50.

Saturday January 31: Taught boxing.

Sunday February 1: We skipped the Sunday 4 mile group run in Cranford. I went out in the afternoon after mapping out a route on the website run.com as suggested by my friend John. After a search for a route in Caldwell turned up zippo, I foolishly just tried to map one out for myself. I called it the Caldwell 4. I severely underestimated the hills. It is 4.36 miles, and took me 35 grueling minutes.

Monday
January 19: Day Off. Much needed after no sleep because of my poor son's ear infection...yes, the left one.

Tuesday January 20: 3 miles today. The treadmill didn't feel good today, everything felt stiff and sore including my face cause it's so damn cold out. I had no time to warm up so I warmed up at 7.0 and ran mostly at 8.0. 23:28. Taught Boxing at night. Christine almost knocked me out.

Wednesday January 21: I did about a 35 minute workout of chest, shoulders and triceps before training my client at night. I hate doing weights at night. Other than having no energy going into it, I am usually wide awake for hours afterwards.

Thursday January 22: I was due for 3 miles. I only did 1.5 at 7mph.

Note to self: Don't eat an entire banana 1 hour before running in the morning. I was in gastrointestinal distress. Needless to say, I stopped before an accident and moved on to do a back, bicep and rear shoulder workout.

Friday January 23: I did the 3 miles instead of 2 today. I went back to the 90 calorie quaker bar 1 hour before the workout instead of the banana. 7-8.3 mph for a total time of 23:04.

Saturday January 24: Taught Boxing. Very humid room so it was slippery again. My left ankle actually bugged me a bit as did my left knee.

Sunday January 22: Group 5 mile run in Ridgewood. Tim joined us today which was awesome! Nice 1st day to come out with us. It was like 12 degrees this morning. He felt good and is coming again next week! Michele joined us again too. We took a nice easy pace, just enough to defrost the snot from my stache from early in the run.

Monday
January 12: Feeling good. Precor Elliptical for 20 minutes. Heart rate 145-155. Legs and shoulder workout. Its gonna be just another Manic Monday.

Tuesday January 13: I meant to run 3 miles today. I forgot my running kicks...idiot. Instead, I did a back, bicep and chest circuit with a core focus using various machines including Hammer Strength, and the TRX band. Resistance on most exercises: About 85%. Speed of circuit: About 1 minute rest in between. Boxing class tonight was good.

Wednesday January 14: Slept about 4 hours due to Justin's asthma. I felt so bad for him, he's quite a trooper.

Luckily I was able to run next to my friend John, it made the time go a lot faster for my 3 miles. He leaves for his marathon in Arizona this week, so I think he was ONLY doing 8 today as he tapers off his mileage. I ranged from 6 to 7 mph throughout the 3 miles for a total of 27 minutes.

Thursday January 15: 3 mile day. Its absolutely freeeeeeeeezing out. Today's Splits: 7mph for 1/2 mi, 7.5mph for 1/2 mi, 8.0mph for 3/4 mi, 8.2mph for 1/4mi, 8.5mph for 3/4mi, and 8.8mph for 1/4 mi. I was trying to make up for the slower 7.0 start and finish with the same 22:50 time as the other day. I almost did, I ended with 22:55. I had 25 minutes at night to do leg extensions, triceps and rotator cuff exercises.

Friday January 16: 2 mile day. I tried to sneak it in in between clients. I was only able to do 1.5 miles at 7-8.5mph.

Saturday January 17: Taught boxing. Good class. If tomorrow morning is as cold as this morning (3 degrees), I'm not going out.

Sunday January 18: A lot warmer out (about 20 degrees warmer) than yesterday. The problem was the 1-1.5 inches of snow on the ground for the group run in Cranford. A ton of people showed up which was very impressive. Our friend Michele joined us for her 1st group run. Again, we can't pay attention to instruction and did 5 miles instead of the 4 we were supposed to do. Running 5 miles in the snow was a hell of a lot harder. I felt my ankle, and I know I will be sore everywhere. Fun though.

Monday January 5: Again legs are just a little sore from the run. 1st day of a surely hellish post-holiday workweek. But I am digging this running thing because I feel great after yesterdays run. I this continues, I may change to a FULL Marathon!

My ankle is killing me as of 4pm, I felt nothing during the run yesterday or earlier today. Its enough to make me limp around. Pissed. Day Off.

Tuesday January 6: Ankle still hurts in the morning. I can't even run around the block let alone a marathon. Nevermind all that upgrade stuff, I'll be sticking to the 1/2. Ankle feels much better as the day progresses. I did about a 30 minute Back and Bicep workout with Carolynn. I threw in some squats too. Taught boxing class. A full 20 people in class. I liked today's class. Good energy.

Wednesday January 7: Due to icy conditions, I ended up having a longer workout than expected, and a good one. Chest, shoulders, triceps, 20 minute recumbent bike.

Thursday January 8: Ran 2 miles on the DREADmill. I still hate it. It just doesn't feel good to me, I much prefer running outside. I went up 1/2 mph every 1/2 mile starting at 7.0 with 0 incline. So it was 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 for the 2 miles. It took about 15:30.

Friday January 9: Overslept. Looks like a day off...we'll see. I wish I had a DREADmill at home. Better yet, I wish I had the Nintendo Wii Fit.

Saturday January 10: Taught boxing class. I guess its officially "resolution" January. Class was packed, making it hot in the studio.

Sunday January 11: As expected, the Team in Training group run in Morristown was cancelled because of the ice that fell on top of previous snow. So it was off to the DREADmill of course. We were scheduled to only do 3 miles according to the coaches. Ran next to Carolynn...cute. The run breakdown was: 1 mile at 7.5, 1 mile at 8.0, 1 mile at 8.2. Total time: 22:50.

Monday December 29:
Legs just a little sore from the run.
I did a pretty full upper body workout. Returned the Brooks, and went with the Saucony's. Maybe not as much stability, but more cushioning. I felt the strides a little too much in the Brooks. I wear orthotics, so that gives me some stability anyway. If it weren't for the cushioning though, the Brooks were ideal.

Tuesday December 30: Taught boxing class. Only about 12 people in class. I decided to go all mitts and no body protector so I could move around better. I was pretty beat after class. Good workout for me, I hope it was for the rest of class.

Wednesday December 31: New Years Eve. Ran 2 miles. Sneakers feel good. I'm realizing I hate the treadmill though.

Thursday January 1: Happy New Year! A bit hung over from beer pong at our neighbor Stephanie and Mason's house. That was a lot of fun, but what am I, 19? I can't hang anymore. Needless to say, day off.

Friday January 2: Light leg work, and core work.

Saturday January 3: Taught Boxing. Full class. The workout...eh.

Sunday January 4: Our second run with Team in Training. It was in Piscataway, NJ, Scarlet Knight country. Kind of cold, but we were all geared up, compliments of the great staff at Fleet Feet, Montclair........plug. We did close to 6.5 miles, although we were only goig to do 5. One of our coaches forgot to turn us around after 2.5. Went harder the 2nd half. Felt great.

Monday December 22:
Ran 3 miles on the treadmill. I hated it. My shin splints were killing me. I can't do the 1/2 marathon if my shins are going to hurt like this!

Tuesday December 23: Taught boxing class. Not the sizeable class I had hoped for leading up to Christmas (eating), but awesome because the numbers were low which meant a better workout for the class and myself.

Wednesday December 24: Christmas Eve. Day off.

Thursday December 25: Merry Christmas. Day off.

Friday December 26: Worked at the Gym. Not feeling great. Probably the 20lbs of food and 30 gallons of alcohol in 2 days. It would be a great idea to run outside in the freezing cold and icy roads today. Unlike my crazy wife, Day off.

Saturday December 27: Taught Boxing. Not full, so again better workout for all. Carolynn and I bought our running sneakers at Fleet Feet in Montclair. That store is great. I couldn't decide between a pair of Brooks and a pair of Saucony's. Both are great, went with the Brooks.

Sunday December 28: Our first run with Team in Training. It was in High Bridge, NJ. Because of the iced out trail, we were forced to run on the road. The hills were like climbing Mt. Everest...great for our first run. It was fine. We did 5 miles.
